Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H Intel H55 Maybe something like:ĬPU: Intel Core i3-540 (Dual Core) or Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz (Quad - Good for Video Encoding which you might do a lot of on a HTPC)

They are also on a clock-for-clock basis more efficient. Still, throwing in my £0.02 worth, I think Intel's CPU's are better suited to HTPC builds because of their lower heat output compared to AMD's processors. You have not given a budget, or stated whether you have a preference towards AMD/Intel for processors, and ATI/Nvidia for graphics. However, for a gaming HTPC you'll do well to loose that processor and graphics card at the very least. Had it not been for the gaming requirement you mentioned earlier, I would have generally kept all of the above. I would replace the case with a HTPC case and eventuly replace the DVD burner with a Blue Ray player. If you would suggest replacement parts I would love to know what you all would suggest thank you. I am curious if one would be ok with these components for the rest of the HTPC? Below is the present system. I may go water cooled as well to replace the fans. I would replace the CD/DVD RW with a Blue Ray I would replace the case with a HTPC ATX case I too want to build a new system and presently have a desktop which I want to convert into a HTPC I would replace the case with a HTPC case and eventuly replace the DVD burner with a Blue Ray player as well as replace the WD 150G Raptor with a 500G HD for data storage. Thanks for the link, any thoughts on using my old desktop with these components for the build? I am curious which ones I could use and which ones one would replace.ĮNERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT 500W ATX12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power SupplyĪSUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX AMD MotherboardĪMD Opteron 165 Denmark 1.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 110W Dual-Core Processor OSA165CDBOXĤG of OCZ Platinum 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K A similar AMD-based build would be slightly cheaper but it might use slightly more power.
